Yes — flexbase and road base are two names for the same crushed limestone material. “Flexbase” is the term you’ll hear most from contractors and suppliers; “road base” is what most homeowners search for.
One cubic yard covers about 160 square feet at 2 inches deep, 100 square feet at 3 inches, 80 square feet at 4 inches, or 54 square feet at 6 inches. Roads and heavy-use driveways usually call for a thicker lift, so let us know what the surface needs to carry and we’ll size the load for you.
As a rule of thumb, a standard driveway does well with 3 to 4 inches of compacted flexbase. Roads, RV pads, and anywhere trucks or heavy equipment will sit usually call for 6 inches or more. When in doubt, tell us what the surface needs to hold and we’ll walk you through it.
